I knew Phil from the Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo. He was an outstanding teacher and friend.. Remembering him from the AAC program and connecting Buffalo with Niagara Falls to become a 2002 winner. The last time I visited with him was in Niagara Falls where he was sharing his knowledge on building communities. He never wanted the word expertise used. Thinking of Phil with every bite of delicious and healthy food.
Sincerely, Joan Broderick.

To Stro family
I met Stro 50 years ago when I arrived at Brockport . I worked for him at the
“RAT” , he was the Manager. That was Fall 1971. We became fast friends and
he was my mentor. He was a leader on campus and at 23 , he was a physical
fitness nut and the leader of the Rugby club. I was on the hockey team and
I would go watch Rugby and he would attend our hockey games.
He always referred to me as Mr. Cavanaugh of just “B”.
Both of us being from Buffalo and loving sports cemented a bond.
My Senior year I shared a house off campus with Stro and Joe Lawrence,
the VP of Legal for Brockport , I was student teaching.

When we returned to Buffalo, he met his love Bonnie and I would see him
at softball games or at other social events and fundraisers. He attended the
Greater Buffalo Sports HOF Dinner that I was a part of.

Whenever I went out of town to recruit and came back on the Thruway,
I would see the sign, Buffalo, “ An All American City “ and think of Phil.
He did that, He made that happen. Of course he was also the man behind
Wellness and Health for our Community.

But to me he was my friend, my mentor and someone very special in my life.
To Bonnie and brothers Jim and Greg ( The Trooper) , so sorry.
He will never be forgotten in the community.
Stro is Buffalo Civic HOF.

DYouville College, Director of Athletics ( retired).
Past President , Greater Buffalo Sports HOF

To the Haberstro Family,
I went to St. John's and Cardinal O'Hara with Phil and remember him as a really great guy. I last saw him at our 50th reunion at O'Hara. One memory I have of him was in 6th grade (Mrs. Phelps's class). We all liked to make the plastic model cars and would bring them to class. Sometimes we would run them across the floor in the back of class - while class was going on !!!
My condolences to you all.

Phil was an incredible human and a deeply involved Buffalonian! So much good came from everything he touched. My sympathy to his wife and family. I'm sure he is already on committees in heaven organizing something to combat obesity in angels and saints!
