Pete was my buddy from 6th grade at St Andrew's. We joined Boy Scout troop #228 together in 1965 where Pete served with distinction. We camped with our troop at Toad Hollow in Hamburg and Northern Lights in Ontario. Pete was a huge Bills fan and we were in the stadium when OJ ran for 280 yards against New England in the snow. In 1969 Pete was a founding member of the Allegheny Five, an organization dedicated to nature studies, mostly of the opposite sex, and camaraderie in Allegheny State Park. We rented cabins every year from 1969 until we all dispersed for college or the service.
We played football and ran track together at Cardinal O'Hara HS. We were in each other's weddings. Myself , Dan Smith and Pete often raided the freezer at Pete's home for mini pizza's late at night.
Pete lived in Northern California for awhile after serving in the Navy. We worked together at Solar Energy Sales, which at the time was a pioneer in the field. Pete helped install the solar heating system at the Santa Rosa swim center, which at that time, was the largest in the world.
Our families camped many times at Armstrong Redwoods which coincidentally was destroyed by fire the week of Pete's passing.
We traveled down to Santa Cruz and Big Sur and played 100s of games of cribbage and pinochle. Pete was an excellent card player!
We spent many a night at Pat O'Shea's bar on Geary St in SF where we would often dominate the Foosball table.
Won't be able to make the celebration on Friday but I'll be making a toast in his honor.
It's been awhile since I've seen Pete since we live on different coasts but Pete was a dear friend, loyal, funny as hell and always ready to rumble if needed. I'll miss him. God Speed Peter!
