Obituary for Irene J. Baase (Jakubek)
Irene Baase, 96 of Depew, NY, Died peacefully on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Elderwood of Williamsville. Born January 21, 1926 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Blazej Jakubek and Sophie Zahara. She was the loving wife of the late Charles Baase to whom she was wed for 62 years.
Irene was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and received her RN at the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, NY. At Deaconess, she subsequently became a head nurse on a surgical floor. She was a member of the former St. Barnabas R.C. Church where she and her husband participated in many volunteer activities. She enjoyed reading, camping, boating, traveling and playing cards with her friends at the Cheektowaga Senior Center. Also, she was a dedicated Bill's fan. Above all, Irene loved being with her family.
She is survived by her daughters Rene and Nancy and their husbands John Manzella and Jim Manuse and her son Michael and wife Elena; grandchildren Jim Manzella, Joe Manzella, Julie Manzella, Peter Manzella, Andrew Manuse, Joe Manuse and Sarah Baase and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Helen Oleniczak of Florida.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Flowers graciously declined. Donations in Irene's memory may be made to Hospice Foundation of Western New York.
